Absorb

When you get to a place you want to photograph, the first thing you should do is not to shoot... but instead, spend a few minutes absorbing the place, get the know the scenery or the people, a little while later you'll find more interesting stuff and details pop up right from under the surface :)

Jetpack to Heaven

We try and try only to realize that the way to heaven is not through us...

Little Surprises Up There

I went on a walk in Quiapo with some of the Purpose Driven Photography students for some street shooting fun and found a lot of interesting shots along the way, we gave ourselves topics to look for and one of those topics was to look for the charm of the city, Quiapo being an old part of Manila gave us some challenge because if the chaotic hustle and bustle nature of the place, but even with that, all it takes is to look up and find some old treasures untouched, really, sometimes all it takes is to just look up...

What's the Racket?

Ok, so I know this isn't exactly street photography, but it's a photo taken on the streets... I think I'll call this a street portrait...
This guy is Jan, he plays badminton with his friends on the streets and drinks cola with them afterwards, fun kid :)

The Chill streets of Baguio

I love Baguio, I can't say that enough, the cool breeze makes it the perfect place to walk around, and incidentally the cool breeze is complimented by the people's warmth, I always wondered what it's like to live here, so during our trip this year I took some time to walk around on my own and try to document the people of Baguio, the city of chill...

The best way to go around the city of Baguio is by foot.
There are warm smiles everywhere, make sure to have yours ready as well.
People there play chess a lot, and I do believe it's a healthy past time.
Street food there is almost the same as in Manila, it requires the same guts to try out.

 Some scenes in the park.
 More scenes in the park.
This is literally a mountain of houses.
 Corn vendors at night.

One day is definitely not enough to walk around because there are times when you just want to sit and let time pass by, funny it seems like time goes so slowly here...

Observe

Whenever you go out and shoot don't walk too fast, or actively search for things to shoot, sometimes you would need to just stand there and observe, but keep the camera ready as the moment will just present itself to you... when that happens you have to take the shot.

Welcome to Street Soul

Hello and Welcome! Thank you for dropping by Street Soul, a blog for travel and street photography. This is where I will post most of whatever photo's I take during my trips either out of town or out of the country, and photos I take whenever I find an afternoon walking around the streets of home.
A wedding photographer by profession, I also have a website where I feature my works at www.derrickianlim.com
Slowly but surely I will fill this up with stories and photos to inform and inspire, I hope you can drop by occasionally and maybe drop a note too.
